She doesn't need a new book. She needs someone beside her.

Every child here already carries a schoolbook. We sit on the mat with her and that same tattered chapter until it makes sense — to her, in her own words.

The same chapter

The book stays the book.

A fraction she can cut in half. A balance she can tip. A word said first in Hindi, then found again in the English line. Nothing replaces the page — it just stops being a wall.

A room where not knowing is allowed.

Shoes at the door. Mats on the floor. Every evening children bring the day's chapter. Nobody is shamed for being lost — the older ones lean over and help the younger ones find their way back.

The same chapter. Now she can touch it.

Her schoolbook page

Shabnam: Do you remember, if one roti is divided equally between two children, how much roti will each child get?

Mukta: Each child will get half a roti.

Mukta: If one roti is equally shared among 4 children, how much roti will one child get?

Mukta: And which is more, ½ roti or ¼ roti?

Quoted from NCERT Class 6 Mathematics, Chapter 7 (Fractions). On paper, she can only read the question.

Tap any word: hear it, see its Hindi meaning and how to say it. Small linking words carry their Hindi in brackets. Each line can open fully in Hindi.

Dignity, not charity · सम्मान

Nothing here is handed down.

Showing up, helping a classmate and watering the plants earn tokens. Then she chooses what they become.

Spend it today
Any day at the Centre, tokens buy everyday stationery — a pencil, an eraser, a notebook. Nobody sits out because a pencil wore down.
Save it for the auction
Or she saves them for the monthly auction, where higher-value things are on the mat. She bids, she decides, and she walks home owing no one a thank-you.

Seva · सेवा

The child who was helped becomes the one who protects.

In May the terraces burn. A clay saucer of water on the ledge, checked before school, refilled after. A sapling in a reused bottle that wilts if she forgets. Something stays alive because she paid attention.

Your part

Sit on the mat with us.

If you can teach — two hours on a Saturday, one subject you love, patience for the same question asked three times.

If you have things — a schoolbook you no longer need, a laptop in a drawer, a box of pencils. Each becomes something a learner actually uses.

Real impact, honestly told

We won't sell you a child's smile.

This photo shows a book changing hands. It doesn't show that she understood it — that takes months, and we're still watching. What's recorded, we show. What isn't proven, we say so.

The learning loop · सीखने का चक्र

Five stages that keep returning to the book.

पाठ्यपुस्तक प्रथम

Schoolbook first

Learning begins with the prescribed book the child already carries. Everything else is a way into that page, not a replacement for it.

The learning approach →

After stage five the loop returns to the schoolbook with a new question.

The circle

The child who learned today teaches tomorrow.

That's the whole idea. Everything else on this site is how.
